Moving on to Cottonwood, Arizona

Today we left Homolovi State Park for Dead Horse Ranch State Park in Cottonwood, Arizona. We chose Dead Horse Ranch since it is really close to Sedona.

The story behind this park's name started with a family who came to Arizona from Minnesota looking for a ranch to buy in the late 1940s. At one of the ranches they ddiscovered a large dead horse lying by the road. After two days of viewing ranches, the father asked the kids which ranch they liked the best. The kids said, "the one with the dead horse!" The family chose the name Dead Horse Ranch and laterm in 1973, when Arizona State Parks aquired the 423 acre park, the family made retaining the name a condition of the sale. So there you have it!

The scenery was changing a bit, could see snow on the mountains in the far distance.

We got to Dead Horse Ranch State Park around 2pm. We gained an extra hour during the drive and now we are 3 hours behind (East Coast Time). We took the Can-AM Spyder out of the garage prior to pulling into our site. Tonight Maria is making sour-dough bagels (Asiago and Everything) for her first time. We will see how they come out.

Took the Spyder out for a quick spin to Sedona and the back. Coming back into the campground I came across this guy.

If you guessed it was a Road Runner - you are correct. Unfortunately, they are not colorful like the cartoon!

Tomorrow we will be taking the Spyder for a cruise through Sedona and exporing other areas.
